and Product Background
Cybernet
Systems Corporation
Cybernet
Systems is a technology research and development company focused
on creating and commercializing innovative, high quality, leading-edge
solutions in the networking, wireless, robotics, electromechanical
and PC hardware/software arenas. Established in 1988, the company
has worked extensively on R&D projects with various branches of
the U.S. Government, as well as commercial entities such as Ford
Motor Company and the A.I. du Pont Institute. Most recently, Cybernet
invented and helped commercialize force-feedback technology for
use in game controllers. Cybernet has recently released its NetMAX™
suite of thin server/Internet appliance software and is releasing
the OpenSkies Virtual Environment Simulation and Training Software
at the I/ITSEC 99 conference in Orlando, FL.
OpenSkies
Virtual Environment Simulation and Training Software
The
OpenSkies Training System was designed for Government training and
is the only low cost PC-based system which incorporates trainee
performance measurement capability. This capability was developed
for the Navy using 20 years of University and Naval research in
event-based performance measurement. It is customizable for any
type of training and can be used for training instructors as well
as students. The performance subsystem provides a recorded measurement
capability that can allow for trend analysis over many different
groups of students and instructors. This capability is unequaled
by any other simulation product.
Cybernet's
OpenSkies incorporates the best elements from the consumer PC gaming
space and the Government distributed simulation space including:
- Expansion
of the system by adding of new models and simulations.
- Support
of advanced and new wave input/output modalities such as force
feedback, audio network chat, eye tracking, object.
- Support
for integration of data collection from both simulation objects
and physcal objects (either in field training or from within an
immersive environment).
- OpenSkies
supports Government mandated standards (HLA, SEDRIS, DLG, DTED/DEM),
multiple pilot-copilot, instructor-trainee cockpits, multiple
projectors, network chat, and AI event-driven scenarios.
The
OpenSkies performance measurement were developed on based on the
Navy's TARGET system.
Cybernet
and OpenSkies Frequently Asked Questions
Overview
Q -
Who is Cybernet?
A -
Cybernet Systems is a technology research and development company
focused on creating and commercializing innovative, high quality,
leading-edge solutions in the networking, wireless, robotics, electromechanical
and PC hardware/software arenas. Established in 1988, the company
has worked extensively on R&D projects with various branches of
the U.S. Government, as well as commercial customers including as
Ford Motor Company and the A.I. du Pont Institute Cybernet invented
and commercialized force-feedback technology for use in game controllers,
through its partnership with Immersion Corporation of San Jose,
CA. Cybernet has introduced its NetMAX™ suite of thin server/Internet
appliance software to retail and on-line reseller channels and is
releasing the OpenSkies Virtual Environment Simulation and training
software at the I/ITSEC 99 conference in Orlando, FL.
Q
- What is OpenSkies?
A -
The OpenSkies Training System provides an interactive development
system to train both students and instructors in a Virtual Reality
Environment for any type of simulation. Many simulators have the
capability to familiarize the student with simulations of the actual
instruments and a few have the capability to create scripts for
mission play. OpenSkies is the only one to have so closely integrated
the analysis and performance measurement capabilities directly within
the simulation software.
Q -
Why do I need it?
A
- OpenSkies is based on the training methodologies developed at
STRICOM and the Naval Research Labs for actual Navy training. OpenSkies
was created with the following key ideas behind it:
- To
improve the student's performance beyond current training program
capabilities.
- To
provide a measurable performance standard.
- To
provide the fast, simple creation of new training courses.
- To
provide a low cost solution to training on complex, expensive
equipment.
Q -
How will this system improve the students performance?
A -
This system will draw better performance out of the student by:
- Providing
for a more quantitative approach to performance measurement.
- Providing
a more structured environment for teaching instructors.
- Showing
students exactly where their deficiencies exist and allowing them
to concentrate on those items.
- Providing
an interface for creating personalized scenarios to address a
student's particular weaknesses.
- Ensuring
that the student meets a specific level of overall performance
or performance in particular areas.
